On 12th August, 1918, the 2nd Rifle Brigade battalion of 25 Brigade, 8th Division, took over the front line near Vimy, just to the north of Arras. During the next week until they were relieved on 20th August, one company from the battalion provided a covering party for 2nd Royal Berkshire who moved forward each night to dig a new trench. There was also periodic shelling of their positions by the enemy and on 16th August, A Company was shelled at 8am and one man, Frederick Jones, was killed.. |
